- Arte Video’s first historical documentary announced, starring the story of Marcho, lord of Moruzzo, the last standard bearer to challenge the Venetian Republic.
- A film made entirely from a sustainable perspective, aiming for Green Film certification.
“Marcho – L’Ultima Bandiera” is the first historical documentary produced by Arte Video, a subsidiary of ILBE Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment. Centered on the events of noble Marcho, lord of Moruzzo, the last standard bearer of the Patriarchate of Aquileia who challenged the Republic of Venice, the docufilm aims to obtain “Green Film” certification, which guarantees the environmental sustainability of audiovisual productions.
Directed by Marco Fabbro, the short film, set in the early 1400s, traces in 54′ the topical moments in the history of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which, against the backdrop of the clash between Udine and Cividale del Friuli, has to cope with the expansion of the Republic of Venice, at the time a maritime superpower. In the agitated years of the Serenissima’s invasion, in fact, all the Friulian nobles bow to their new master, while Marcho (Paolo Mutti) of the d’Arcano family, lord of Moruzzo, entrenches himself inside his castle, in a clash that will cross generations. Here, betrayed by his wife’s (Aida Talliente) family, he will challenge the Doge (Lorenzo Acquaviva), in a battle for independence.
“We are excited to announce our first docufilm, ‘Marcho L’Ultima Bandiera,’ which tells a fascinating page of Friulian history. The story of Marcho, lord of Moruzzo is an often-neglected chapter, which, with the help of local historians, we are trying to bring to light.” Declares Giuseppe Tissino, CEO of Arte Video. “With this production, however, we not only want to stage a narrative but also actively promote environmental sustainability in the world of cinema.”
Funded by ARLEF, Film Commission FVG and the FVG Audiovisual Fund, “Marcho L’Ultima Bandiera” is in fact not only the first docufilm produced by Arte Video, but also a film made entirely in a sustainable way. In fact, the production has committed itself to a practical path aimed at reducing its carbon footprint: equipment with rechargeable batteries and EURO 6 production and transportation means have been used; all the cast has been equipped with water bottles and on the set the presence of special areas for separate waste collection has been guaranteed and certified.
Synopsis
The documentary film reconstructs the vicissitudes of noble Marcho, lord of Moruzzo, the last standard bearer of the Patriarchate of Aquileia who opposed the Republic of Venice. The story unfolds between 1335 when Patriarch Bertrando hands over the banner of the Patriarchate to Frederick, Marcho’s grandfather, and 1421 when the doge of Venice lays siege to the castle of Moruzzo, and in a short time defeats the besieged and has Marcho arrested. Before he is captured Marcho manages to escape his son Pileo, who carries the banner of the Patriarchate. Nothing more is heard of him and the banner is never found. Against the backdrop of the reactement of past events, a man in modern dress observes the events and reconstructs the historical context.
